2009 Friesians in Friesland Tour A Great Success!
From January 5th to January 12th 2009 we had our “Friesians in Friesland” tour in the Netherlands. Central focus was the Stallion Show January 8th through 10th in Leeuwarden, Friesland.
The tour was a great success, all participants really enjoyed this tour. Apart from the Stallions Inspections programme, we visited some nice Friesian villages like Hindeloopen and Workum. Also, some Friesian farms were visited and we had the pleasure of driving around with one of the best drivers in Friesland. All in all, very enjoyable. You can read more about the trip and see photos on Lisa's Shutterfly journal. Be sure to click the tabs at the top of the page to see all the installments!

Then three days of Friesian stallions in Leeuwarden. This year it was a three-day event as it used to be long ago. But this time, with a whole new programme. On Thursday, around 80 stallions were shown, trying to obtain their breeding permits. After this, the finals of the young stallion competitions were taking place, both for dressage and in harness. Friday’s programme brought a lot of variety. Apart from clinics, with amongst others Leo Kraaijenbrink, we saw the third round of the inspections, the auction of the young breeding programme stallions, and a show evening. Saturday was for the placing of all breeding stallions and the champions selection. A new event was the elite auction of a number of stallions who at least have reached the second round.
When the champion was selected on Saturday, it was clear the public preferred Maurus. The competition remained exciting till the very end. Doaitsen was a great Reserve Champion!
This three day event has been a great success! And so has our tour. We are planning on organizing another tour next year. Contact us for more information, if you are interested. And also if you are interested in going to the Netherlands for the Central Mare Inspections in the fall.
Rinse, who was listed for sale (S9) on this site (see Recently Sold) did very well in Leeuwarden in the finals of the driving competition which was part of the stallions inspections programme. Shelbyville Times-Gazette: World-class Friesian horse coming to Shelbyville. (Opens in a new window.)

This article tells us that 38 young stallions are going to the third round. Also, it mentions that the judges apparently wanted some spreading of the stallions. Look at Thorn, but the name is incorrect as it says of the Woeste Hoeve, meaning, the Wild Farm, whereas it should be the Noeste Hoeve, meaning the industrious farm. In fact there is a farm called the Woeste Hoeve but this is a sex club!!
It was clear the public preferred Maurus. The competition remained exciting till the very end though. For the rest the highest placed stallions in each category are mentioned.
The three day event has been a success!

Klaske fan ‘e Olde Hoek Made Preferent
In the U.S. Klaske fan ‘e Olde Hoek made preferent this year at the VA keuring after her son Peter made ster. Klaske is a fantastic mare performing at 4th level not too long ago. She has given us many babies, mostly daughters, most of which have made ster. We still have the ster mare Hiske-Klaske fan ‘e Olde Hoek. She is under saddle and also in harness and now performing 1st level in dressage.
Klaske is now owned by Teresa in Alabama and we can only hope she will have more babies. Klaske is a wonderful mare and in the Netherlands has always combined having babies with being a sports mare. She does have the much desired Sports predicate, so she now is ster pref sport.
